Jiro artist book — biography and work publication
My grandfather, Jiraïr Hadian, called Jiro, is and always has been my biggest inspiration to enter the art and design world. Since I was a kid, he always have me brushes and paint so I can draw and color next to him while he was working on his next painting or sculpture. His talent drew my attention, his calmness while working soothed me, and his passion above all made me put him on a pedestal to always look at. His first exhibition was held on 06.11.1991. Since then, he never exhibited his work again. My grandmother told me the reason is that he’s scared; scared of showing it to everyone and getting it outside.
Hence, I wanted to photograph all his work one by one and archive them before he ever decides to or not do his next exhibition. Then came along the idea of creating an artist book about my grandfather, the artist.
He has a bookcase in his house in which he has put all the artist books that he loves and admires. So why not put his own book along side all the other books? The bilingual book (English/French) encompasses all his work from drawings, to painting, to sculptures. All the text was edited from the interviews that I conducted with him, the sentences that I always remember him saying and his little story and background.
